2020 will be the year in which business social responsibility, the transition to a circular and shared services economy will be the key to growth and sustainability for companies. Geo-political uncertainty, social uprising, bias decisions, rising costs of waste, data scandals through smart-yet-maturing AI algorithms, the unrealized UN Sustainability in institutions of all types, all contribute to the major barriers that businesses are facing.
The way we learn and apply experiences are also impacted, gone are the days of spending weeks and months classifying, categorizing, and defining terms and processes to no end. Businesses can no longer afford to continue in the old cost-prohibitive ways and stay relevant.
As humans continue to demand more and faster services and products and as a result produce high levels of waste per capita, citizens are placing the responsibility of waste mitigation on business and industry to reduce all types of waste: industrial, biomedical, agricultural, hospital, construction, domestic, solid and others. Today the development of the industry to meet societal demands, while people pollute the air, water, and soil with industrial wastes and damage the natural environment greatly. The cause and effect of demand and production create a competitive profit-driven business environment. There is no one size fits all when it comes to making a business competitive in today’s’ shared services, circular and demand-driven economy. It also depends on the state of the business, the sector, and the customer, most businesses follow a similar path to modernization, which is essentially about flexibility and understanding the customer’s journey.
To enable this change and desired experiences, we must align our thinking and education to support the transition and our ability to stay flexible and relevant to meet changing demands and societal pressures.
The future of work and the need for relevance requires employees to continuously modify and update their skills and expertise.
While the traditional classroom classifies, categorize and lecture approach to group learning has dominated for decades, there is evidence that this approach is no longer affordable, viable, and a fit for a circular and demand-driven economy. This is especially critical in delivering the skills and capabilities required to enable and support organization with emerging industrial technologies, digital technologies and resource optimization in a demand-driven circular economy, where flexible and adaptability is vital to success and longevity.
Universities and learning institutions should be at the forefront of change and leading the charge to support the transition and meet the needs, skills, and capacity for demand and circular economy.
To meet the emerging industry challenges students must obtain a host of skills that will be invaluable and immediately actionable in the workplace today, not least of which are the softer skills such as collaboration, partnerships, and the ability to integrate all active participants journeys and experiences across the value chain.
At ResultantGroup we are setting out to create an industry problem-solving platform that lets organizations harness the power of the crowd to solve any problem and making it accessible and implementable in near real-time with hands-on real-life training and oversight.
Our approach gives students, staff, and other industry participants a big advantage because the reality is that the world is becoming more global, and we want to give participants real-world experiences so they can better support the organization and enable a collaborative workforce.
This approach is not new to anyone. During interviews, people often talk about having worked on real-world problems and the experience of working with different cultures and the ability to work along with side people from different countries, with various skills, capacities and are able to manage their differences and see things from each others point of view.
It is becoming critical that the industry adopt a multi-discipline approach to enhance the stakeholder experience and journey across the value chain. Multi-disciplinary exposure is what we identify as leadership, capacity, knowledge, ability, and soft skills as important for a circular and demand-driven modern economy.
These projects not only give students the opportunity to see how software development and cybersecurity work is done in the real world, but it also gives them direct exposure to the kind of team working and collaboration that is a fundamental part of life in a modern IT department
The current generation is now predicted to have multiple careers and jobs throughout their life, skills such as partnering, collaboration, understanding interdependencies across the value chain, problem-solving, project development, and open-mindedness are likely to be increasingly important in underpinning the personal skills, ethics and technical skills we will have to learn throughout our careers.
Hands-on cross-training and cross-cultural competency are critical skills required for success, these skills will enable groups and individuals to work together and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, think critically about local and global challenges, and collaborate to create impactful solutions for the continuous dynamic changes’ organization face.
By applying learning in a real-world setting, the aim is to fully enable staff to solve and take effective action to solve ongoing change, complex and nuanced environments within their organizations, and for those who depend on their skills and experience to support the delivery of quality decisions and services. Experiential hands-on learning in your own environment will be worth its weight in sustainability and regenerative growth gold!
